5 Questions with Savannah Miller

This month we continue our series with inspiring designer Savannah Miller who makes country life in the beautiful Cotswolds look like a little slice of rustic heaven. Surrounded by leafy lanes and wild flower fields, we met the designer to talk about work, family & what prompted her move into the world of fashion design. She also shared with us her wardrobe essentials and her favourite by Iris pieces this season.

How did your journey in fashion design begin and what sparked your interest in bridal design?

I was knitting on pencils from the age of 8. Making things with my hands was a passion I discovered very young. My best friend used to have a fancy dress party every year for her birthday and I used to make wild and wonderful costumes out of bubble wrap and all sorts. I was so pleased with myself at the time but the pictures are hilarious now! I fell in to bridal by accident after absolutely loving the process of having my own dress made with the incredible Jan Marie von Giebelhausen.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

All over the place but I always look to historical fashion for details because things were so much more considered when they were hand made.  I love going to Angels costume archive and seeing all of the incredible creations and the ways they used to cut bias just blows me away.

What are your favourite styles from the by Iris collection and why?

I love your corduroy jumpsuits. They are so effortless and just the right side of 70’s. I LIVE in mine!

What is the best advice you have been given professionally?

My step mother, Kelly Hoppen always says, ‘your attitude not your aptitude will determine your altitude” I love it.

We’re half way into 2022. What has been your highlight so far?

Glastonbury! We had the best time because  a lot of our friends were there so we had a joint stag and hen party then watched Paul McCartney which was pure magic.
